I love your work, and the use of scale figures for comparison, especially the one on the drawplate.;)
Amazing how long these elements take! Well played!
Jim/Paul,

Thanks for following and the positive feedback.

The figures give scale and perspective to the photos, so I bought 5 different poses. Future pictures should have some variety, if I can get the poses to work.

Time flies when you're "in the groove" and the intrinsic reward it the end result!

A very minor progress update. With grandkids and the Olympics little time was spent in the shipyard.

Stained the two thick stuff planks, as well as the Limber strakes. It's still damp and will "mellow" over the next few days.

The Superintendent and PO Brutis test fit the risers and are pleased with the fit.

The next few days will be spent planning where the cutouts, to view the interior, will be made.

Then SEVERAL days to work up the courage and saw through "perfectly good frame timbers"!

Thanks for your interest.

A few photos to show the progress on the bow structure:

1. The final two bow hooks were stained, then each got four square bolts installed and finally they were permanently glued in place.

2. PO Brutis cut and staged several lengths of planking. He is pondering how to plank the deck, still show the structure below, and finally, where to place an access hatch to the area below this deck (no hatch isshown in Boudroits drawings, that I can find).

3. Midship supports for the longer deck beams were added. PO Brutis didn't like the small but eloquent supports in the drawing (photo 1 red circle). Instead, he opted for beefier supports (photo 2).

Looks great Brad - when are you going to add your wales ? Reason I ask mine took a fair amount of manipulation with holding the hull at various angles and clamping to get them installed. I am about to cut out the 26 gun ports and then level off the tops of the frames to proper line for the gunwales which also will involve the same amount maneuvering of the hull outside of the work site.

I would hate to see the hard work you're starting on the interior get affected/damaged when you get to these steps.

Chris/Paul,

Appreciate and agree with your advice!

I've seen it proceed both ways in great build logs, lower interior first or exterior first.

My "plan" is to get things done, low in the interior. This will add the longitudinal stiffness and keep the frames aligned well.

After that, I plan to build the stern structure.

I shift to the RV workshop for a month of skiing in Breckenridge tomorrow. I want to delay the delicate stern as long as possible as we rock and roll down the highway.

I DID ADD the first layer (top one of three) wales before doing interior work because it added immense stability to the frames. Unfortunately, I can't completely finish the wales until the stern is built up.

Photo of the top wale going in (about a month ago). Iike you Chris, that striip is half thickness. Full thickness was impossible (for me) to bend correctly.
