I cannot help but boasting that I just picked up Sherline mill and lathe locally for a fraction of price for a new ones. Something in close to a thousand dollars in US money. Metric, as I always wanted. With resettable zero hand wheels. Not brand new but in perfectly working condition. This is not necessarily going to improve my modelling quality but I always wanted to have these tools in my possession. Cheers.

Finally I invented the method of tying the lanyard above top deadeye that satisfies me. Unfortunately now I will have to redo all that I had done so far. Here is the process.
I haven’t had the chance to see everything yet, I’m new here, but I’ll say right away, I’ll definitely follow you and go through all the pages. Very neat and beautiful work from what I’ve seen so far.
I faced a similar issue. I haven't reached this point in my own build log yet, but I can give you a sneak peek of my solution. Initially, I built a frame from wooden beams and sealed it around with liquid glass and a 0.5mm thick plastic film. However, I eventually settled on an entirely glass option. I simply ordered a custom-made aquarium with 4mm thick walls, inverted it, and covered the model. This protects it from dust and humidity. Additionally, I applied a protective film with a UV filter to the glass to shield the model from sunlight. Unfortunately, I can't attach any photos right now, but I believe the description is clear enough to understand the principle. This setup only protects the hull, though. For larger models, you'll need a door in the case since moving a structure of 1.5x1x0.5 meters is nearly impossible! ))))
I was advised that hemp color lanyards on deadeyes is not historically correct. They must be bade black tarred. I was deceived by white lanyards currently installed on real Victory ship. I will have to either replace the lanyards or have them painted black. Anyone tried to paint a polyester ropes black?
Don't give in that easily YT. I know that our eastern European colleagues and those from Russia have forcefully argued these lanyards are part of the fixed rigging and should be tarred - but my research suggests this is far from certain. After all, their purpose is to adjust the tension on the shrouds while underway - so might they be better considered part of the running rigging? Plus, wouldn't a tarred lanyard bind in the deadeyes?

I am in synch with Paul's above posts. The black ropes didn't exist e.g. the regular rope was tarred to become black or dark brown in Continental Navy. Also, tarred rope is mostly used on standing (fixed) rigging of all kinds. The running rigging was never tarred, this being said, the shroud's lanyards were adjusted the tension from time to time, therefore considered as 'running' rigging.
However, who said you cannot make them black? It is your model, and you can make what best suits your taste. But... I wouldn't make them pink color, not because I don't like pink.

Anyone tried to paint a polyester ropes with any success? What type of paint to use so rope still remains flexible?

Rit DyeMore and iDye Poly are dyes that can be used to color polyester rope. Rit All-Purpose Dye will not dye polyester thread.

Just tried a brown felt marker from dollar store. To me looks not bad.
In a couple of posts I will tell you how and what I dye the threads with. If you have a few days, follow my updates, I will tell you more about it.
I successfully dye Amann and Gutermann threads in the color I need.

Lanyards will be black. It even looks better aesthetically.
Honestly I don’t know how to make this connection. I am lost. I know how it should look like from the books. I don’t want it only rely on the force of CA glue. Need some help.
The problem also is that these connections will have to be readjusted when upper shrouds are getting tightened. I have no problem to later cut them off and retighten them. But for that they must be not glued neither to catharpins nor to futtock stave.
I think I cracked this problem. The solution is that one end of rope must be tied to the catharpin rope eye. Then rope goes over shroud and futtock stave as many times as required and the end is tied around the bunch. Connection is called lashing and works same way as a lanyard on the shroud deadeyes.

Black lanyards and I figure the ratlines will also be black.
I was also advised by respectable model ship builder that my lanyards were a bit too large size. This is also have being fixed.
