I just realized that it’s been almost a month since I was in the shipyard. But I guess that’s life. I’m instead in the process of building a bed frame for a friend. I’ll return to Le Rochefort once it’s done.
The shipyard has reopened for construction! Well, actually, Deconstruction!
While doing other projects, I took the opportunity to review Adrien’s book and realized that I was tapering my stern ceiling planks way more than they should be.
Per the above photo the planks don’t appear to taper at all. My error was that I scaled the planks from the drawings on plate 6 and 7 not accounting for the two-dimensional aspect of the drawings.
Anyway, I’ve spent the morning removing the incorrectly tapered planks and will now try again…
Two steps forward and one step back! Tomorrow I’ll start replacing the planks I tore out.
Fair winds everyone!
Today was a good day. Ceiling planks redo completed and now for a bit of scraping and sanding.
I know a couple of planks broke in the curve but i think sanding and scraping will hide that. Also this area will be under the poop deck anyway.
Good morning Oliver,
the result looks great. , there's a small crack that can be concealed. Are you covering both sides completely? The light wood creates a very nice contrast.
Tobias, thank you for your kind words. I am not planning to cover both sides. I just need to decide which side to leave open but will stop here for now and evaluate.
