Hi Donnie, Good kit - Bad kit. Your doing a bloody awesome job. A Kits what you make it and yours is exceptional. Take your time. Look at it as an a skill builder. Think about how much it has made you learn. You should be extremely proud of your effort. All Kits will get to you at some stage. Take a break, relax and look at what you have achieved so far !.

More work. As I am finishing up the railings, etc. It is now time for me to make some post for the Railings. The instructions call to just cut off from 5mm stock a dowel and place it. However, it is just kind of boring, so, I decided to dress it up some by putting the 5mm stock in the lathe and "eye-balling" it. The only measurements I made are the ones that have the RED score marks. The slope and shape of the column was just made up as I went along and making another like it was not trouble as long as I kept things simple. The later image shows both post side my side. I would call it good enough. The images are just showing a progression of how I did it.
Yes, I used the files while the lathe was on. If you do something like this, you MUST be alert and know what you are doing at all times. I will be happy to supply a drawing of how I did this in CAD.

Nicely done. Absolutely in character with the rest of your work. Leaving the columns as unturned dowels would have been a disservice to a great modeling job. Excellent!,

Thanks guys. Well, on to the building of the Ships Bell Tower. The Ships Bell itself was supposed to have a hole in the end already done. But it wasn't. I thought about just skipping this and trying to rig something else up, but after staring at the Bell, I finally came up with an idea and remembered from a machining book I read that sometimes you have to temporarily glue things onto a jig in order to work with it, then break the glue loose afterwards. So, the images below show the build up of my drilling hole and further construction. Thanks for visiting my log.

Thanks Chuck. Well, onto the stairs. I thought this was going to be relaxing....ha....not so fast. Well, it started out that way. At any rate, I used CAD to model the parts using a Caliper to measure the steps dimentions, the wall in order to obtain the "Angle" of the steps in which each were displaced at about 9.25 ° so that the stairs would line up correctly. The offset dimensions I used was 3mm for the back and 1mm for the front for each stair. Again, nothing fits on this kit - so be prepared if you so want to buy this one. At least you have this build log to go by. The book skips around terribly as their logic does not make any sense at all. The only thing I can think of is that they must have added revisions to the book as they went along and did not update the proper order and procedure. For instance, they have the Cannons being put in way, way too early. Plus other steps that should not be done until other things are done first.

Thanks Robert. Getting the parts to fit right has been a challenge, but I am almost finished with the hull. Maybe a couple more months. Well, here are some more pics of some deck details. My guess is that these are some type of Bitts. Never seen any laying this low before.

I anchored the rail with brass rod as I do not want this coming out when rigging lines are a little tight.
