Where's the popcorn? I can't wait to see this . . .
I didn't know stopping work on the Sovereign was medically related. Are we getting old or something? Your condition would make work on model ships extremely challenging. If staring at my model could finish the build, I'd have fleets of thousands of ships by now. I can't think of a harder burden except blindness for this hobby. Best wishes, and heal well, Nigel.I am quite curious as to how I get on to Kurt.
The reason why is that the reason worked stopped on Sovereign was my diagnosis of Hand Arm Vibration syndrome and I really struggled holding tools whilst carving for any long periods. Now I am no longer on the tools with my day job and haven't been for nearly 5 years, some sensitivity has returned to my fingers.I will never recover full feeling but it has improved.I now actually can feel it when I slice my finger with a scalpel, whereas before the first indication was blood everywhere.
This is a bit of a test to see if I have regained enough to be able to revisit my SOTS at some point in the future.
Kind Regards
Nigel
Ok then, just a teaser of what I am going to attempt to carve
I am copying some of the design details from the Saint Philippe interior fittings as the time period is exactly the same.I really like the design Lemineur came up with for the Bitts which I have scaled down from 1/36 to 1/65.The heads are pretty small at this scale so should provide hours of fun.The slots, straight forward on my small mill.
Kind Regards
Nigel

Turkish slaves feature prominently in 17th C. French ornamentation. I agree that this is a good choice of subject from JCL.Ok then, just a teaser of what I am going to attempt to carve

As someone with nerve problems in his hands, as well, I can empathize with your predicament. I have found that daily nerve “stretching/flossing” keeps my cubital tunnel issues at bay, but I have to think to do it several times a day.I am quite curious as to how I get on to Kurt.

Great job on the bits, mon ami. The question I have is, how did you make all the shave groves the same length?
Thanks, Nigel. I thought the same, but when I tried, it is always offset a bit from either side (or both), but noticeable enough. I guess. I have to practice more. This is where Masters differed from others. Because we use the same tools\tecniques and the results are differentThanks Jim
just using the dials on the xy table
