USS Constitution by Model Shipways 1:76 scale

I was trying to avoid coppering, therefore always choosing the model for a future build without coppering :p
We all have to learn things we don't want to do at some time in our lives, like working 8 hours or more a day to make a living. Easier to be a bum and not have to work, but then we can't enjoy the nice things in life.

Dear Tony,

I would like (again) ask your help: I wanted to start to provide copper plates at the supplied rudder.
And also add the pintles and gudgeons (as shown on sheet 4 left corner - down).
Are they supplied with the kit?
because I don't find them and are wondering if we have them to make by ourself?

Idem question for the capstan assembly: on page 25 of the instruction manual they mention laser cut8
I don't find them niether, or I'm missing something.

Could you please have a look?

Thx

Marc
Hi Marc
Your Constitution looks great hope mine comes up as well. When I first saw your copper plates I priced them up and checked there availability down under. It will cost me around 50% the price of the kit and take a while to get here. At the moment this will be my plan B.
I checked the parts for the rudder and it looks like we need to make them from the brass strip or plate provided, another case of the instructions not showing what parts to use.
I will have a look at the capstan tomorrow.
Tony

Hi Marc
First I must take back what I said about the instructions while looking for the capstan I found the rudder.

The capstan parts are on a number of steets I think I found them all.

Hello dear Tony,

Thanks, I hadn't seen that at all!
It's not always clear and before you do stupid things: ask Tony :)

I'm considering ordering some accessories such as lion's head, capstan, etc... I'll let you know soon.

Thx

Marc

Firstly a big thank you to everyone reading and posting likes for this log. Now it's time for me to post an update on my progress.

Most of my time has been taken finishing the rails and the last few planks above the main rail.

Next job was to cut the tenons on the masts. The masts where not to bad to do but the bowsprit was troublesome.

The masts have a little bit of play, final alignment will be done after the deck has been fitted.

Tony,

as always, every detail is perfect...see how you anchored the masts! Wow! Thinking out of the box....
and even more accurate than 1/10 mm!
Hi Marc
I forgot to file the angle on the square cutout in bulkhead B before it was assembled, this was much more difficult after planking. Lucky I had a small file long enough to do the job.
