Thank you so much for your kind words. l'm really pleased you like what l am doing andl feel honoured to hear people are taking such an interest. Happy birthday for yesterday :). l too have the book, it's a great reference point for this kit. Are you planning to build the kit too?
 
Very good work - your complete framing and deck structure is looking very good - so I am looking forward to see her naked with the hull outside of the jig.....
..... or will you first go on with the deck?

Thanks Uwek. I shall carry on with the upper deck inside the jig, only because it is more convenient for me to work with and the rib numbers printed on the upper platform very much help with positioning the main beams. Like you, l am looking forward to seeing her ''naked'' :)
 
The upper deck is now under way. l am starting at the mid ship position and working towards the bow. Just the carlings and knees at the moment. Next will be the ledges for this part and then continue forward again to complete the bow section

At the risk of being boring, l can show you the result of another week of work on the upper deck timbers, with the addition of ledges and a few more beams and carlings etc. The solid piece with the hole between deck beams 6 and 7 is support for the 10 inch sea mortar which is a feature of this kit. You have the choice of fitting the mortar or leaving this area as a hatch opening. l thought it looked quite interesting so have gone with mortar, although it doesn't look like there is any reference to one actually being fitted to Blandford in the 'Anatomy' book. l have also leveled off the frames and spacers along the starboard side of the hull which has been waiting attention for months now

Goodwin in AoS shows the stove to be made of brick but the design is that of a later type iron firehearth. When Blandford was built she would defiantly have had a brick stove as iron ones where not in service until 1730's. The stove that came with the kit (at least the one that came with mine,) is clearly meant to be an iron one. ` Blandford did get an iron stove in 1732 as stated by Goodwin from public record sources, so most likely true. However he then goes on to say that 'in later years the galley was placed under the forecastle'. On the upper deck under the forecastle would be the normal place for the stove of a small English MoW and this is where I would have liked to have placed it on my build, except there is no room.
So all this suggests to me that the stove, even after changed to iron, was always on the fore platform and in the orientation you have it. Also if I use the iron stove included I am building a post 1732 ship. Just as well, as the gun carriages that come with the kit are also of a design only developed in the 1730's and almost certainly a type never used on the Blandford, but that's another story.

Hi Zoly,
I am building Blandford concurrently with a drifting trawler for which I have a small log in progress; Zulus, Scottish herring drifters circa. 1890. and two at once would frazzle my brain, perhaps when I finish the Zulu. Cheers JJ..

I am really enjoying your build and have started my build. I am having a problem with the false keel, I can't find it. There is no part number or anything of that nature. Can I get some help here?

Hi there. Yes l can help. The keel pieces are grouped and wrapped together separately and in this group you will find 10 strips of wood (I think about 160 mm x 7 mm x 2mm if I remember right). These are joined to make up the false keel. You only need 5 of them, so you can keep the others as spare. I hope you enjoy your build and if ever you need help, please don't hesitate to get in touch. It's great to have someone else building this great kit.

I am looking at the deck structure with all those carlings and ledges putting together, you must have real fun, Kerf. The deck coming along nicely!!
 
Really good progress - and it is looking really good
 
Hi All. It's Sunday so l thought l'd give a revue of the week's progress. Continuing on toward the bow, the bitts to the stern side of the foremast are in place and thankfully they fit exactly in position, so l must have done somethings right. The accuracy of this kit is amazing and l'm really pleased with the result so far.
