LE ROCHEFORT

hi all more progress pictures and a call for help please, showing frame No.3 not sure if I have it done corectly, so do need help so many lines it can get confusing as i like to bevel the frames after installing all of them, also showing the building slip i am using got it last year but have not used it until now, i changed the screws from hex head to phillips head screws easier to do, will have to move it into my bedroom when i start to instal the frames SORRY MOSES (MY CAT and companion), QUESTION FOR MIKE41, noticed you did some frame plans from a ANCRA BUILD and you marked the CLAMP LOCATIONS, how do you determine the location from the orignal plans WOULD APPRECIATE SOME HELP and coments20191222_010404.jpg20191222_010404.jpg20191227_001740.jpg20191227_002310.jpg20191227_010328.jpg20191227_010505.jpg

Hi Don,

That is a great looking jig you are using. I don’t know what ANCRA BUILD you are referring to? do you have the name of the ship? In any case the clamp locations should be shown on the interior profile and the sections drawings. It would be helpful if you post a photo of the midship section as shown on your drawing.

Mike

I hope I am wrong Don,but the futtocks on frame number 3 around the waterline area look too narrow to accommodate the near 45 degree bevels in this area.It may be the camera angle, the only way to be certain is to place it on top of the drawing. The inside face needs to extend to the innermost line on this section.

Kind Regards

Nigel

Hi Nigel you are probally right the first four frames are really confusing will send you pictures probally tomorrow, HI Mike I am searching for the thread I am talking about IT WAS THE ONE WHERE THE MODELER MADE CORECTIONS AND YOU REVISED THE FRAME DRAWING. Have a new way to do the frames I think it will work will send pictures also MIKE THE JIG IS THE ONE FROME HOBBY ZONE has been reviewd here it is the same one VINCE P is using. THANKS TO ALL Don

hi all my update, tried my new method of building frames, not the normal way but did not like the way they were turning out, this method came out better then expected, hope i am explaing it so it can be understood i do the first part of the double frame (BOW) the old way and i make it exact leaving a small amount of meat on the inside face, then on the second part(stern i cut everything quite thick leaving a lot of meat on both sides then glue all futtocks in place and using my dremel i sand to the finshed part one it gives me a nice flow of the frames not the old jagged frame, also pictures showing NIGEL what i did to frame No.3 witch i will have to redo once i know how it goes, and MIKE41 it does not anywhere on the plans or monograph show where the midship frame is i selected fram No.16 as the midship frame hope i am correct, final showing my 5 inch disk sander attached correctly, PLEASE COMMENTS AND CRITISIMS STRONGLY NEEDED, sorry for being long winded here20191229_222348.jpg20191230_015940.jpg20191230_020448.jpg20191230_020624.jpg20191230_022035.jpg20191230_022145.jpg

Looking back through your log Don at pictures of the drawings, frame 16 is midship/deadflat.You are correct.
Shame you have to redo frame 3.Always work to the outside lines. If you bevel before assembly, you bevel both sides of the frames joined together otherwise you are overcomplicating things and asking for errors.

Kind Regards

Nigel

thank you NIGEL, I have a lot of frames to re-do that I am not satisfied with about 7 i want to get this right. maybe you can answer or someone else, in the monograph it is certain plansets are 1:48 but all the plansets say 1:36, a little cofused there. THANKS AGAIN AS ALWAYS Don

Can't quite help you on that one Don as I don't have this Monograph. However it may be the rigging plans that are in a smaller scale

Kind Regards

Nigel

According to the details about the monograph, which I do not have/own, all plans are 1:36 scale.

Like Gilles mentioned in his post already - the Planset is definitely in scale 1:36

According to the details about the monograph, which I do not have/own, all plans are 1:36 scale.

Many Thanks for the given links - and welcome back in our forum - we missed you - hope your translation works are running smoothly and coming to an end....

Frölichs book can really help, if your problem is shown somewhere, but nevertheless it is a very good guide to see, what is possible and that you get a better feeling for the POF modeling etc.
Here is the link to the book review here in SOS:
When you order it, send Didier Berti some regards from Uwe and SOS......
Do you have already the book 1 and 2 of Boudriots 74-gun ship? Also helping very much to understand the construction of a lot of details...

What you have done is right Don,what confused me at first though is you will find the middle futtocks are upside down as you have laid them out on top of the drawing;).At first I couldn't work out why the ends were different widthsROTFI always write a k on the end of the futtock that goes towards the keel, not all are obvious as to which way round they go
I would leave the base of the frame until much later,it has a step and both faces slope as well.Just to make it even more awkward, there is a protruding square tenon if you choose to represent it.

Happy New Year

Nigel

THANK YOU BOTH UWE AND NIGEL, I WILL BE GETTING ALL 3 Books and ANOTHER MONOGRAPH SOON, VERY GOOD IDEA NIGEL TO MARK THE DIRECTION OF MIDDLE FUTOCK I THINK I MESSED UP A FEW FRAMES THAT WAY, LEARNING MUCH FROM THIS BUILD GAING MORE COFIDENCE WITH EACH MISTAKE. THANKS AGAIN VERY MUCH. Don

HAVE I GOT IT RIGHT THIS TIME NIGEL, AND BUWE WITCH BOOK TO ORDER FIRST THAT WOULD GIVE ME A BETTER UNDERSTANDING as can not afford all 3 right now. THANKS AGAIN Don

Don,

If you are willing to do a bit of reading, please follow this link:
Where you can open a PDF document in english "The Slipway News (the red PDF)". Open the document, scroll down to page 75 and you will find a lot of information about building frames. The ship is different than what you are building but the information can still be applied.

The French version of the document "Gazette" is more complete and in there, one must scroll down to page 67 to find the same info.
Please keep in mind that these were published in 2004 / 5. As I was building the ship then, I kept writing such docs until 2007 but never published them or released them to the public. Unfortunately everything was later lost. These docs were found online a while back.

Update: I have added 5 separate docs (grey PDFs) in the link above. All together they include everything that is shown in the single French red doc (Gazette)

2nd Update: For the complete set in French, English and Italian see the following link:

Where you can just choose each issue in each language.

G.
