Kingfisher 1770 1:48 POF

I think the complete opposite. Being retired or almost and the kids grown leaves me with the time to concentrate on building. I spent most of my life flying and building scale r/c aircraft. I have belonged to several flying clubs and have participated many scale events and the average age has always been around sixty. I also competed in plastic modeling for many years and the same is true. I think it is a great time in life that gives me great pleasure and joy.

Your finished pieces look so clean. One can clearly see the amount of work that goes into each part. And not only the shaping but cleaning off any fuzzy bits of wood so that it almost look like 3d printed or similar.
Thanks, Dan! I'll give most of the credit to the boxwood. I don't think I could make it fuzzy ROTF.

Just the briefest of updates to close out our weekend here in the US...

And finally, the upper deck breast hook (the larger upper element), the bolster (the thinner lower element) and some buckler bars (vertical bits):

It really is fun fabricating these interesting details! Thanks for stopping by!
my dear friend
You are doing an amazing job in its beauty and accuracy, my jaw drops in admiration
I missed the updates last month (the notification system on the website misses from time to time), glad you enjoyed your vacation with your family :)

Thanks Shota! Yes, I sometimes don't even get notifications for my own build report... I enjoy following your work as well!

I like the way of presentation of the "damaged" gratings - very good idea
One question: How did you you make the lining of your hawseholes?

Hallo Uwe. Thank you for your interest in my build.

If you take the plastic end off a wire crimping ferrule the soft metal piece is flared. I rolled over the flare by gently tapping the end with a small hammer. I then cut the rolled-over segment to about 3 or 4 mm long and slid that into the prepared hawse hole. I did one flared and rolled-over piece on the inboard side and another flared and rolled-over piece on the outboard side.

After all that work they looked too shiny so I brushed them with flat varnish and now they look just like lead :).

I have since learned that the hawse holes were more likely lined with wood on this ship but I'm not going to change what I have. I wasted half a day of my life and about 25 ferrules just to end up with the four you see...

Maybe you need a lot of experience to excel in this hobby ROTF.
I had a former boss who said it's a good day if you learn something. I must be having lots of good days lately however, what I'm learning today is something I had forgotten in the past.
As to the age of those posting I'm afraid I take the average up.

Hi Paul,
I am now catching up with your build. I don't have any words to express. Just WOW and beyond that. I bet there had to be shipbuilders in your family tree back then.
Not that I'm aware of Donnie. But there are people who have hand skills (dentists) and others who have worked as artists. I'm just trying to do the best I can with the help of so many of my friends on the forum that you created...

Dentist + Artist = Ship modeller
Ship modeller + forum support = Really good ship modeller
Makes perfect sense :)
