I always talk to them over the phone. A number of modellers around Sydney have their cases built there. They are not cheap and I think the delivery price to the US would be enormous.

I have found a local company in Germany on the internet, which supplies acrylic glass custom cut. Total cost around 150€. I guess 6 cms all round between the extremeties of the ship and the case should be enough. Any more and I will have to build a new house just to display my ship.
I will order them when the time comes, bond them together with cv glue, put some wooden moulded strips around the edges and mount the case on a wooden base. I have a carpernter around the corner, who can supply me with a good piece of light oak wood.
I wonder which solutions other model ship builders have found regarding their display case?
I found using the following guidelines concerning the driling of acrylic glass useful:
"The biggest enemy when drilling in plexiglass is heat. If the plastic becomes too warm it can easily crack or break. For this reason cool the borehole sufficiently. Just put some water with detergent on the drill.
Do not press too hard or too weak when drilling. The speed should also be in the middle range. If the resulting chip is very crumbly one is pressing too tightly or the drill speed is too fast. If the chip melts, pressure or speed is too low."
Putting a piece of masking tape on the exit side of the borehole also helps to prevent cracking or the hole breaking out.

I just had a look at the case. Looks good, but you're right, too expensive. Zu teuer!! I feel the case with its elegant design and colour of wood is too prominent and distracts somewhat from the very object it houses. That's my opinion, though.
I like that the glass is close to the model because you can get your eyes close. There is only 2-3 cm between the glass and my model at the bowsprit and the stern, allowing you to get close to look at it. The sides are far from the ends of the yardarms, and you can't get close enough to see the deck details as much as I'd like.
The trick is lifting the glass box over the model and lowering it without having an accident and crushing some rigging. That's why many cases open at the rear end, so you don't have to lift the glass.
For the three cases that I have had made, two for strip canoes in dioramas and one for my pilot boat I measured out the interior dimensions that I wanted and called the local plastics fab shop to have them made of three pieces, 1/4 inch acrylic: one back/top/front folded over lengthwise and two end pieces with square edges set inside those. The cases are set into grooves cut into a base board. Canoes: 25x7 x9 and 25x9x10 (enclosing the bank dioramas) and for the pilot boat 28x8x24. All inches and the smaller ones under $100 and the larger about $175. Well worth the cost as I see it. The fab shop gives me what I want within about 10 days depending upon their schedule.
